Although not as well known as his paintings, Leonardo da Vinci produced a fair amount of sculptures. However, most of his specific sculpture work is difficult to trace back to him. Most notably, da Vinci was commissioned by the Duke of Milan to construct the world's largest horse sculpture (24 ft) in commemoration of his father. The horse was to be made of bronze, so first da Vinci made a clay model, but since it was a time of war, bronze was in high demand and the project was put on hold. Da Vinci died before the horse could be completed.
